[What we are]

RBG18 is Belgium-based and active worldwide.
RBG18 is non-disciplinary.
RBG18 explores the intersection of art, design, psychology and technology.
RBG18 specializes in the creation of matter.
RBG18 harnesses innovative technologies.
RBG18 challenges conventional functionality.

[ RBG18 philosophy]

  1. We push away defining boundaries between disciplines.
  2. We evolve at the frontier of digital fabrication, algorithmic design, and radical materiality.
  3. We use technology as an extension of expression.
  4. Form follows experimentation
  5. Function is an artifact of progress,
  6. Every object is a fusion of purpose and provocation.
  7. We intent to use sustainable methodologies, ensuring that innovation minimizes the cost of the planet.

  1. Collaboration in Isolation.

Vessel

Transforming sound waves into dimensional art, evolving from 2D patterns to 3D functional objects.
In the debut project called Vessel, forms are created by a sound-based installation. During the search for function for the created forms, a way to influence the end result in a controlled manner was found.

The possible influence of the process is used to create forms with the utility value of furniture. This project uses sound, one of the fundamentally occurring elements of nature, as a driving force for creation. Because the installation is controlled by modern software under the control of the designer, this way of designing cannot be described as purely generative design.

[System process]

The Vessel project is a fusion of technology and creativity, exploring how sound waves can be translated from two-dimensional patterns into three-dimensional objects. At its core, the project leverages a sound-based installation, where sound frequencies are captured and processed using [software name]. These frequencies are then visualized as 2D waveforms, which serve as the foundation for the design process.

Here step-by-step

The Vessel project demonstrates how technology can be harnessed to bridge the gap between the intangible (sound) and the tangible (physical objects), creating a new paradigm for design.

[Artistic Approach]

By recognizing patterns and rhythms within the waveforms, the project transforms these natural phenomena into [name of the thing].

The process is both intuitive and deliberate, as we navigate between chaos and control, allowing the sound to guide the creation while applying judgment to refine the outcome.

The resulting objects can serve as furniture, sculptures, or decorative pieces, each carrying the unique imprint of the sound that inspired it. The Vessel project celebrates the interplay of randomness and intention, showcasing how technology can amplify the creative process while preserving the organic essence of its inspiration.
